De-Escalation Training, June 9th

Training Type: In-person

The Toronto Drop-in Network will facilitate a half-day in person De-Escalation training on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, 9:30am - 1:30pm.

This training will focus on key learning points; avoiding a crisis, recognizing and understanding a crisis, escalating behavior, communication (verbal/nonverbal), de-escalating and follow up/aftermath.

This workshop is designed for front line workers, managers, volunteers and anyone working with people experiencing issues related to being unhoused, mental health and or substance use.

This workshop is meant to be engaging and discuss the realities of escalation and ways of approaching escalation that are non stigmatizing and dignified.  We will discuss scenarios and foster important conversations about ways of dealing with crisis through an anti-oppressive, trauma informed, harm reduction lens.

We stress the importance of destigmatizing individuals and find ways to come from a place of curiosity as opposed to judgement. We will also discuss boundaries and what to do when those boundaries are crossed.  We come from a harm reduction, anti-oppression philosophy.

This workshop includes a guest speaker with lived experience who will discuss de-escalation from their point of view.

Registration deadline is June 3rd.

If you have any questions, please contact Marianne, Training and Engagement Coordinator engage@tdin.ca | tdintraining@tngcs.org | 647-464-1733.
