Drop-in Model Good Practices Workshop

This two-day training course will introduce the drop in model, operations, best practices and evaluation tools as well as historical responses to poverty in the development of drop ins. Day One will focus on the drop-in approach; Day Two will be a walking tour of drop-ins with guest speakers.

The learning objectives for this course are:

  • To examine how the responses to poverty and homelessness influenced the development of present-day drop-ins.
  • To explore the systemic causes of homelessness
  • To review the four models of drop-ins, their respective philosophies
  • To present the Toronto Drop-in Network and its current activities
  • To introduce the core capacities and best practices identified in the Measuring Success framework
  • To look at the issues involving professional boundaries
  • To provide drop-in tours that review drop-in practices, programs and policies
  • To discuss and provide strategies for drop-ins to foster positive community relations
