The course will emphasize the applications of problem solving strategies. Problem-solving treatment has been shown to be effective for a wide range of emotional disorders and is effective in the context of short-term therapy. Problem-solving treatment focuses on the here and now and helps clients use their own skills and resources to function better. Participants in this course will also be introduced to the use of self-help manuals. any clients and therapists are unwilling or unable to commit to a full course of cognitive behaviour therapy. In this case, self-help manuals are useful in bringing about improvement in psychological functioning, yet they are of little use outside of a supportive therapeutic relationship. more>>
